The 2011 Springfield College men's soccer team's season will be chronicled through the eyes of sophomore , Michael Fowler. Fowler, a sport management major, will provide a behind-the-scenes look at the life of a student-athlete at Springfield College.
Now that everyone in the entire Division III soccer universe knows what happened on Saturday and Sunday, it’s time to regroup and get ready for this upcoming Saturday against Eastern Connecticut State. We could not be any happier than we are right now, sitting right where we want to be. However, before I start getting focused on this weekend, I want to take the time to reflect on the weekend that was.
I want to give kudos to every single member of the team for their contributions this weekend. Thanks to Danny Amato for scoring that equalizer against Wheaton, and major thanks to goal-of-the-year candidate Drew Sommer for the wonder strike to give us the win against Wheaton. Also, a minor detail from that game was the amazing defense of Scott Donofrio. If it wasn’t for him, I definitely would have scored a goal. Your defending is unrivaled - who else would defend his own team that well!
Finally, major props to Kevin Nowak who I feel like gets a shout out on this blog every single day. He scored the game tying goal against Babson to give us a chance to win. Congratulations to Brett “Bacon” for winning tourney MOP, it was well deserved. The “fantastic five” of penalty takers came through in the clutch, and Chris Walton deserves a ton of credit. His focus and willingness to step into the net in our team’s most desperate situation proved to be the reason why we are NEWMAC champions. You’re the man Chris!
This Saturday versus Eastern will be a big test. Springfield has not been to the NCAA Tournament since 1999, and for us to have this opportunity, we are truly blessed. Time to be underdogs again!
See you all Saturday!
